A slow drain and a blocked main line look similar from the sink but need different machines and different money. These are the drain jobs we dispatch most, from a single clogged fixture to a hydro-jetted main line with a camera run to prove what caused it.

A slow drain is one of the most common reasons homeowners call a plumber, and one of the easiest to get wrong. Most blockages sit somewhere between the fixture and the main sewer line, in a pipe you cannot see, made of material that may be decades old. Our drain cleaning service pairs you with a local plumber who has the right machine for that pipe and the experience to tell a simple clog from a structural problem.

What we clear

Kitchen drains fail from grease, soap and food particles that harden along the pipe wall until the opening is too narrow to pass water. Bathroom drains fail from hair bound together with soap scum. Floor drains and laundry standpipes collect lint, sediment and whatever the washing machine sends out. Each of these responds to a different technique, which is why the plumber asks what fixture is affected and how long it has been slow.

Cabling, jetting and cameras

A drain cable clears the immediate blockage and restores flow. Hydro jetting goes further by removing the buildup on the full circumference of the pipe, which is why it is the better choice for kitchen lines with years of grease and for lines with mineral scale in hard-water regions. A camera inspection is recommended when a drain has clogged repeatedly, when a home is older than about forty years, or when several fixtures are affected at once, because those cases often involve a pipe defect rather than debris.

When drain cleaning is not enough

If a camera shows a collapsed section, a badly offset joint or roots entering through multiple cracks, cleaning is only a temporary measure. In that case the plumber will explain the repair options, including spot repair and trenchless lining, and how urgent the problem really is. You should never have to pay for a third cleaning of the same drain without knowing why the first two did not last.

Drain Cleaning jobs we handle

Does this sound familiar?

Problems this covers

  • Kitchen sink drains that back up from grease and food buildup
  • Bathroom sink and tub drains slowed by hair and soap scum
  • Floor drains in basements, garages and laundry rooms that overflow
  • Shower drains that pool water around your feet
  • Recurring clogs that store-bought chemicals only mask for a week
  • Gurgling drains and bad odors that point to a partial blockage or venting problem

Signs you need a plumber

If more than one of these is true, it is past the point a store-bought fix will hold.

A technician performing a plumbing inspection
  • Water drains noticeably slower than it used to in one fixture
  • Gurgling sounds from a drain when another fixture is used
  • Sewer or rotten-egg odor coming from a drain
  • A clog that comes back within weeks of being cleared
  • Standing water in a tub or shower during use

What to expect

How the visit works

  1. Identify which drains are affected

One slow fixture usually means a local clog in its trap or branch line. Several fixtures backing up together points to the main line, which is a different job with different equipment.

  2. Choose the right method

A cable machine cuts through hair, grease and small root intrusions in branch lines. Hydro jetting scours the full pipe diameter with high-pressure water and is the right tool for heavy grease and scale.

  3. Clear the line and verify flow

The plumber clears the blockage and runs water to confirm normal flow, watching for slow recovery that would indicate a second restriction further down.

  4. Camera inspection when clogs repeat

If the same drain has clogged before, a camera run shows whether there is a belly, offset joint, root entry or pipe damage that cleaning alone will not fix.

What's included

What you get on every job, whoever we send.

  • The blockage is removed, not just pushed further down the line
  • No caustic chemicals that damage older pipes and finishes
  • Camera evidence when the cause is structural, so you know before paying for repeat visits
  • Advice on what went down the drain and how to keep it from coming back

Questions

Drain Cleaning questions

Should I try a chemical drain cleaner first?

Caustic drain cleaners rarely dissolve a real blockage and can damage older metal pipes, PVC joints and fixture finishes. They also create a hazard for the plumber who opens the line afterward. Plunging and removing a P-trap under a sink are safe first steps. If those do not work, the clog is beyond the trap and needs a cable or jetter.

What is the difference between cabling and hydro jetting?

A cable machine, sometimes called a snake, uses a rotating steel cable with a cutting head to bore through the clog. It is fast and works well for hair and soft blockages. Hydro jetting pushes water at very high pressure through a nozzle that scours the entire inside wall of the pipe, removing grease, scale and sludge rather than just opening a channel through it.

Why does my drain keep clogging in the same place?

Repeat clogs in the same fixture usually mean the pipe has a low spot where water sits, a rough interior that catches debris, or a partial obstruction such as a root or a broken section. A camera inspection after cleaning shows which one it is and whether a repair makes more sense than another cleaning.

Can drain cleaning damage old pipes?

In the hands of a licensed plumber, no. The cutter size and jetting pressure are matched to the pipe material and diameter. Old cast iron with heavy tuberculation and thin-walled galvanized drains are treated more conservatively, and a camera is used first if the pipe condition is unknown.

How can I prevent clogs?

Keep grease, coffee grounds and starchy food out of the kitchen sink, use hair catchers in tubs and showers, and flush only toilet paper. Run hot water for a minute after using a garbage disposal. Homes with mature trees over the sewer line benefit from a scheduled cleaning before roots grow enough to cause a backup.
